POLSON — Coming to Polson from Forks, Wash., Rex Weltz is the new principal at Polson High School.
He’s familiar with the area since he grew up in Noxon, attended Western Montana College and taught in Hamilton before moving to Alaska in 1999. He’s also a fan of the Western A Conference.
Explaining his methods, Weltz said during his tenure as an administrator, he has built good positive relationships with students and emphasized his expectations.
“I don’t put up with disrespect,” he said.
The first month or so of school will allow Weltz to become familiar with the systems and operations at PHS. He wants to see what works and what doesn’t but is not interested in wholesale change. Weltz wants to ensure the school is a positive learning community for both students and staff members.
Weltz has always concentrated on student success, the culture of the building, providing stable leadership and partnering with the community.
“We can’t be successful without having our parents as part of the team,” Weltz added.
He, his fianceé and children, a kindergartner, a seventh-grader and a junior, are excited to be here and glad to be members of the community.
“We come from 140 inches of rain a year so we are enjoying drying out,” he joked.
