Mission Valley well represented on all-state basketball list

LAKE COUNTY – Six Mission Valley prep hoopsters received all-state rankings last week as the Montana High School Association released its list of the top boys’ and girls’ high school basketball players for the 2020-21 season.

In Class A, the Polson Pirates placed two athletes on the boys’ all-state list. Junior Colton Graham and sophomore Jarrett Wilson earned spots on the state’s elite basketball list.

Graham and Wilson also collected first team Northwestern A all-conference selections with Graham leading the way in the conference MVP ballot votes.

Also for the Pirates, Xavier Fisher picked up a second-team, all-conference selection, while  Trevor Lake earned an all-conference honorable mention.

The Pirates had an overall season record of 16-4, which included a Northwestern A Conference championship, a Western A Divisional runner-up finish and their second consecutive State Class A boys basketball tournament appearance. Pirate head coach Randy Kelley received the well-deserved Northwestern A conference coach of the year award.

Leonard Burke and Girma Detwiler each gathered Northwestern A second-team, all-conference selections for the Ronan Chiefs who finished their season with fourth-place finishes in both the Western A Divisional tournament and the State Class A boys basketball tournament. Also for the Chiefs, Elijah Tonasket and Zarec Couture earned all-conference honorable mention selections.

Ronan Maiden Jaylea Lunceford was recognized for her on-court achievements as she helped lead the Maidens to a Western A girls’ divisional second place finish and a bracket spot in the state tournament with both an all-state and first team Northwestern A all-conference selection. Maiden LaReina Cordova earned a second-team, all-conference selection.

After helping to lead the 2020-21 Mission Bulldog basketball program to an overall season mark of 12-8 and a fourth-place finish in the Western B Divisional tournament, Bulldog sophomore Zoran LaFrombois earned both Class B All-State and first team 7B all-conference honors. Ross McPherson nabbed second-team, 7B all-conference honors. For the Lady Bulldogs, senior Sydney Brander, junior Madyson Currie and sophomore Kooper Page each garnered second-team, 7B all-conference accolades.

Over in Class C, the Charlo Lady Vikings finished with a 16-1 overall season record, a 14C District Championship and a third-place finish during the Western C Divisional tournament. The team was led by seniors Carlee Fryberger and Liev Smith who both earned all-state and first-team 14C all-conference accolades. 

Senior Connor Fryberger who led the Lady Vikings with a season total 163 points and a 10.19 points per game average joined Carlee Fryberger and Smith on the first team 14C all-conference list, while junior Kassidi Cox earned second team 14C all-conference honors.Over on the boys’ side of the court, senior Roper Edwards and sophomore Keaton Piedalue picked up second-team, 14C all-conference honors for the Vikings.
