Dynamic Defense: Mission falls to Lady Hawks, beats Deer Lodge

ST. IGNATIUS — The Lady Bulldogs faced a strong foe at the net Thursday night during their loss against the Thompson Falls Lady Blue Hawks.
St. Ignatius lost to Thompson Falls 19-25, 29-27, 25-20, 25-14.
Kelsey Fitchett and Hope Reid of Thompson Falls both put down 18 kills, and Reid had 10 blocks against the Lady Bulldogs.
“Thompson Falls has some big blockers,” Kendal Anderson said. “(But) we still got some kills.”
The Lady Bulldogs put up only three blocks with one apiece from Jennifer Larsson, Ashley Courville and Loren Erickson. The team totaled 41 kills with a team high of 11 from Erickson, who also had the most aces with four.
St. Ignatius took the first game 19-25, but Thompson Falls battled back and won the last three.
“The first three went well, but (the Lady Bulldogs) lost steam in the last game,” Anderson said. “We took ourselves out of it.”
Anderson thought defense improved, but offensively, the team still needs to improve transitions on and off the net.
On Saturday, the Lady Bulldog defense improved even more as the team collected a whopping 99 digs in four matches.
The Lady Bulldogs avenged their previous home court loss by defeating Deer Lodge 25-17, 25-18, 23-25, 25-20 Saturday at home. Leading the team were Stephanie Lewandowski who had a team high of 23 digs, and Sara Nerby with 12 kills. Sarah Bowers and Allard contributed three aces each, and Erickson had 19 assists.
St. Ignatius (2-3 conference, 6-7 overall) faces a tough schedule at home this week with Arlee on Tuesday, Loyola on Thursday and Charlo Saturday.
