MONTANA — Montana Public Radio announces the release of “Words Out West, a new literary series spotlighting writers of the contemporary West. “Words Out West” features poems, stories, radio plays and other forms of spoken word from the literary landscape of the Big Sky Country and beyond.
Created by Missoula playwright Jay Kettering and MTPR producer Cole Grant, “Words Out West” brings fresh perspectives from today’s distinctive storytellers, while celebrating the tradition of writing in the West.
“Our goal is to attract and inspire the literary community and we know we can do that with our established writers, but we also believe our listeners will be surprised and delighted by the emerging writers they’ll hear on the podcast,” Kettering says.
Award-winning writer Kevin Canty; a rapping cowboy; a river-guiding novelist and a bus-riding Poet Laureate are just a few of the folks who lend their voices to the show.
“The podcast includes traditional author readings, which I love,” Kettering says, “but we also combine my background in theatrical writing, and Cole’s sound engineering skills with Missoula’s rich pool of talented actors to create contemporary radio plays and dramatic readings. And I think that unique mix makes this podcast stand out.”
“Words Out West” is a non-profit on a mission to showcase thought-provoking writers and voice actors who will entertain and inspire.
