ARLEE — Utilizing fast break opportunities early in the game helped Superior build a quick lead of 36-18 at halftime, and they never looked back, taking the game 83-48.

Superior’s Cary Chamberlain scored 17 of her game-high 21 points in the second half.

Kelsey Stenberg and Kaitlynn Koke joined Chamberlain in scoring, adding 16 points apiece for the Bobcats.

“Defensively, we didn’t play well,” said head coach Richard Bachmeier.

He mentioned the team will start to work on denying the pass better.

Offensively, the Scarlets were right on the mark, but in combination with too many turnovers, defensive struggles sealed their defeat.

Arlee’s Mahalia Hendren once again paced the team with 19 points.

But even with Tiffany O’Neil’s and Whitney Malatare’s 11 points each, the Scarlets couldn’t match Superior.

“It was just one of those games. Superior is a quick team with long arms,” Bachmeier said. “We are doing a lot of experimenting … putting people in different positions.”

The Scarlets are on the road this week and will face stiff competition in St. Regis and Missoula.

The team plays St. Regis on Tuesday and Loyola on Thursday.

“St. Regis is winning some ball games, and Loyola is always tough,” Bachmeier added. “We are going to have our hands full again. We have a tough schedule, which makes me happy. Even if we are not winning, we’ll grow.”
