COLUMBIA FALLS – On the road, the fifth-ranked Polson Pirate (4-0) football team continued to steamroll their opponents, downing Columbia Falls 36-7 in a big road victory on Friday. Columbia Falls struck first after Connor Williams picked off Vince DiGiallonardo’s pass, returning the ball 32 yards to give the Wildcats a 7-0 lead.
It didn’t take long for the Pirates to claw their way back into the game, as DiGiallonardo soon gave his team an edge with a 32-yard run touchdown, followed by a 29-yard score to help Polson pull away for the win.
Pirate senior quarterback DiGiallonardo led the way, completing six of eight passes for 95 yards in the air. He also gave Polson three touchdowns on the ground, rushing 13 times for 78 yards.
“Vince DiGiallonardo had another solid game with three rushing touchdowns,” head coach Scott Wilson said.
Running back Chris Cote carried the ball 14 times for 60 yards, including a touchdown.
On defense, the Pirates continue to hold opposing offenses to a minimum, as they held Columbia Falls to only 36 yards rushing and 74 passing yards.
“Our defense had six sacks, led by Eric Williamson with three,” Wilson said. “(This win was a) great start to the conference season. We have another tough road test going to Whitefish this Friday.”
With the win, the Pirates improve to 4-0, while the Wildcats fell to 2-2.
