Editor,

The Chief Cliff Volunteer Fire Department and QRU would like to thank everyone who contributed prizes and goods, purchased raffle tickets and gave of their time and energy to help make Dayton Daze another huge success.

Although the number of event-goers was down due to COVID-19, those who did attend were very generous with donations and the purchasing of raffle tickets, silent auction items and canned items.

Once again, we outdid ourselves, raising more than $16,000 during the event — money that is earmarked for an expansion to our Lake Mary Ronan Fire Hall, which we hope to accomplish in 2021 to help house our growing fleet of vehicles.

While our fire department receives a fixed amount of taxpayer revenue each year based on the numbers of homeowners in our fire service area, the money barely covers costs of operation, maintenance and insurance.

Our community fundraising is responsible for enabling us to grow and expand our services and update firefighting and personal protective equipment.

We sincerely appreciate all the support we receive and will continue to do our very best to serve our community and surrounding areas. We are already planning for the 21st Annual Dayton Daze on Sept. 11, 2021, when we will commemorate the 20th anniversary of 9/11 with our theme First Responders are Superheroes. Hope to see you there.
