As the saying goes: you win some; you lose some. Last week the Polson Pirate basketball team experienced a little bit of both, as they shut out Loyola 79-53 on the road before losing in a battle of undefeated Northwestern A teams at Columbia Falls on Saturday, 81-40.

Against the Rams, the Pirates quickly built a 28-12 lead after the first eight minutes of play and led 42-26 at the half.

The Pirates continued to play well on defense in the second half, holding Loyola to a second half total of 27, while Polson cruised to a convincing 79-53 win.

The Pirates were hot from the floor, with four Polson players ending with double-digit scores. Cody Fischer led the way with 20 points, while Vince DiGiallonardo finished with 19. Triple threat Zach Camel put up 14 points, 10 assists and six steals. Tyler Krell added 11.

Loyola was led by Josh Gilligan, who scored 16, while Josh Janssen put up 15. With the loss, Loyola fell to 4-3 on the season.

On Saturday, Polson had a tough time hanging with Northwest A rival Columbia Falls on the road, as the Wildcats cruised to a large win over Polson, 81-40.

The Pirates had a hard time containing Columbia Falls’ Luke Kazlauskas, who scored 25 points. Two other Wildcats finished with double-digit scores, with Parker Johnson finishing with 19, while Anthony Correa put up 14.

The Wildcats led 41-14 at the half, and held Polson to just 26 points in the second half, as Columbia Falls almost doubled its first half score with another 40 points.

The win gave Columbia Falls a 5-2 overall record, while Polson fell to 4-2 overall.

Krell led Polson with 16 points, while DiGiallonardo added 6.

Polson continues its season against Corvallis at home Jan. 13 and plays Libby Jan. 14 at home.
