Arlee Warriors / Charlo Vikings

Cross-county and Class 14C conference rivals Arlee Warriors and Charlo Vikings faced off on the gridiron Friday night for county bragging rights and a chance to remain undefeated on the season.

“It’s a hard-hitting game,” said Charlo Viking head coach Reese Cox. “We don’t like losing to them and they don’t like losing to us.”

The Vikings prevailed over the hosting Warriors 50-12.

On the night, junior Viking quarterback Coyle Nagy was 13 of 17 for 196 passing yards and two touchdowns as well as 12 carries for 39 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

Also for the Vikings, Roper Edwards had 13 carries for 54 yards and three touchdowns along with 45 receiving yards on three catches and a touchdown. Viking sophomore Tucker Love had 111 receiving yards and a touchdown on six catches.

For the Warriors, Jace Arca had 70 yards on 7 carries, including a 51-yard touchdown run. Warrior Colt Crawford ran 12 times for 60 yards and a touchdown.

With the win the Vikings remain undefeated at 2-0 on the season, while the Warriors move to 1-1.

Ronan Chiefs

The Ronan Chiefs moved to 1-1 on the season with a 55-0 road loss to the Columbia Falls Wildcats on Friday night.

Polson Pirates

In Friday night’s season home opener, Polson Pirate wide receiver Xavier Fisher caught two first-half touchdown passes, 15-yards and 26-yards, from quarterback Jarrett Wilson in a 14-7 win over the visiting Whitefish Bulldogs. 

Wilson finished the evening with 24 of 35 for 249 yards and two touchdowns as well as six carries for 29 yards on the ground. Fisher caught seven passes for 68 yards and two touchdowns. Robert Perez had seven catches for 44 yards. Alex Muzquiz had 61 yards on four catches.

Mission Bulldogs

Mission quarterback Kellen McClure connected with John Komotios on a 25-yard touchdown pass for the Bulldog’s only score during Friday night’s 58-8 loss on the road to the number two state-ranked Flint Creek Titans.

 

Volleyball

 

Ronan Maidens

The Ronan Maidens opened their season on the road with a 3-2 win over the Libby Lady Loggers on Tuesday, Sept. 1. The Maidens took the first set with a 25-17 win. The next two sets went Libby’s way 25-22, 25-22. Ronan came back and claimed the following sets 25-20, 25-20 for the victory.

Leina Ulutoa lead the Maidens with 24 assists, four aces, five kills, two blocks and eight digs. Olivia Clairmont had 16 kills, Rylie Lindquist produced 19 digs, and Hannah Rowe had 14 assists. Maiden Madeline McCrea had four aces, nine kills, five blocks and 21 digs.

On Thursday, the visiting Stevensville Lady Yellowjackets swept the Maidens, 25-21, 25-21, 25-22.

Ulutoa paced the Maidens with eight assists, two aces, three kills, three blocks and four digs. McCrea had seven kills and four blocks. Rowe contributed 10 assists.

Polson Lady Pirates

The Polson Lady Pirate volleyball squad started the young season last week 2-0. On the road in Frenchtown, Tuesday, Sept. 1, the Lady Pirates defeated the Lady Broncs in three sets, 25-21, 28-26, 25-14, for the first match win of the season. Ara Mercer contributed 16 digs, and Maggie Todd had six kills, 15 assists and nine digs for the Lady Pirates.

In Saturday’s home opener, the Lady Pirates came away with a three-set 25-21, 25-22, 25-23 victory over the visiting Libby Lady Loggers. Lady Pirates Berkley Ellis and Hallie Moss each had 11 assists. McKenna Hanson posted three of the four total team aces. Todd had 13 kills and 13 digs. Kobbey Smith booked nine kills and 14 digs. 

Arlee Scarlets / Mission Lady Bulldogs

The Arlee Scarlets hosted the Mission Lady Bulldogs in a cross-county/volleyball matchup on Thursday evening. The Lady Bulldogs prevailed 25-23, 12-25, 10-25, 25-19, 17-15 over the Scarlets. No other stats were available from the coaches.

Charlo Lady Vikings

The Lady Vikings posted two more wins this week to remain undefeated on the season after prevailing against Clark Fork and St. Regis. On Thursday, the Lady Vikings defeated the visiting Clark Fork Lady Mountain Cats 26-24, 25-20, 25-21. Kassidi Cox had eight kills, eight assists and two aces. Carlee Fryberger posted 15 kills and 15 digs for the Lady Vikings. Also for Charlo, Connor Fryberger had 13 assists and Kate Young had 14 digs. 

The Lady Vikings swept the visiting St. Regis Lady Tigers 25-16, 25-10, 25-10 on Saturday afternoon with standout performances by Cox (eight kills, one block), Connor Fryberger (12 assists, 10 digs), Carlee Fryberger (six kills, eight digs, four blocks) and Mila Hawk (six aces, five assists, one block). 

 

Soccer

 

Polson Pirates

Last week, the Polson Pirates opened the prep soccer season with two home games. On Tuesday, Sept. 1, the visiting Stevensville Yellowjackets plundered the Pirates 7-2. On Thursday afternoon, the Pirates were shutout 5-0 by the Corvallis Blue Devils. 

Polson Lady Pirates

Myranda Heiser scored the only goal for the Polson Lady Pirates during their season and home opener on Tuesday, Sept. 1. The Lady Pirates fell 2-1 to the visiting Stevensville Lady Yellow Jackets. In Thursday’s matchup against the visiting Corvallis Lady Blue Devils, the Lady Pirates were blanked 3-0 by Corvallis.
