Plains man awaits trail for assault

A Plains man is accused using a rock to assault a man he didn’t know at a motel in Ronan. Todd Harold Schrier, 57, entered a plea of not guilty at District Court in Polson on Aug. 20 to felony assault with a weapon.
According to court records, on July 3, law enforcement officers were called to a report of a fight at the Starlite motel. At the scene, a responding officer learned that both parties were gone. One of the individuals was transported to St. Luke Community Healthcare hospital.
The motel’s security footage showed images of one man attacking another man with a rock. The officer was able to located Schrier hiding behind some nearby apartments. He was wearing the same clothing as the man seen assaulting the other man with a rock in the motel’s security footage. It appeared to be unprovoked and neither man knew the other.
District Judge Deborah “Kim” Christopher set the case for trial on March 8, 2021, and maintained bail at $25,000.
