POLSON — The Polson boys’ and girls’ tennis teams swept Corvallis and Bigfork April 3. Bigfork forfeited the boys’ matches, bringing only one player, Colter Mahlum, to face Polson’s No. 1 singles player Brady Hislop, who came away with the win, 5-7, 7-6 (4), 10-7. It was the first time Brady had defeated Mahlum, head coach Bob Hislop said.
“(Brady) did a nice job,” he said.
Although defending two-time state champion Corvallis was missing a couple of their best boys, the win was still a big deal for Polson, coach Hislop added.
“We had a good day,” he said.
Polson’s No. 1 and 2 boys’ doubles teams played solid matches against tough opponents, with Will Davey and Ian Laimbeer falling just short of a win against Corvallis’ duo of Tim Allsop and Drew Myers, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (4), and Hayden Congdon and Sam Peel beating Turner Zsupnik and Alma Powell, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 7-5.
Corvallis’ girls didn’t give the Lady Pirates a lot of trouble, and the hometown girls won 5-2. Led by Whitney Zimmerman, who beat Emma Decker, 6-1, 6-1, Polson dropped only one singles match to the Blue Devils when Tegan Bauer fell to Annie Sangster, 6-4, 7-6 (6).
The Lady Pirates were perfect against Bigfork earlier in the day, coming away with a 7-0 win.
The Polson teams are both 3-0 on the season after the wins and will head to Columbia Falls Thursday before a busy weekend at the Cut Bank Invitational.
