Robert ‘Bert’ Todd III
CHARLO — Robert “Bert” L. Todd III, passed at the age of 86, on Aug. 5, 2020, at St. Luke Hospital in Ronan. Born on Nov. 26, 1933, in Bozeman, son of the late Robert L. Todd and Sarah Schaffer. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen “Cookie” Todd, of Anaconda; his three sons, Edward, William (Lee Demmitt) and Kyle (Veronica); his five grandchildren, Conrad, Chelsea, Marissa, Elianna, and Lainey and his four great-grandchildren; his brother, Dan Todd; and many nieces and nephews.
A Korean War veteran, his mission in life was to support and mentor his fellow veterans in the Mission Valley. Bert was an avid reader of history, especially about the Korean War and other military theater operations. He worked as a logger, his true passion, as an owner and operator in the mountains of Montana and later went to work for Lake County until his retirement.
His family knew him as a kind and loving man who always had the right thing to say, (even if it was wildly inappropriate). Dad was a hero and a guiding light to his sons and was known for his entertaining stories, which he loved to share. He felt strongly about giving back to his community and volunteered at the Charlo Lions Club and in Ronan at VFW Post 5652 as a service officer and trustee, at the American Legion Post 126, the Charlo Fire Department, the Disabled American Veterans, the Veterans Warrior Society and the Mission Valley Honor Guard.
He wished for a graveside service at the Western Montana State Veterans Cemetery in Missoula. Services have been held.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Legion Post 126, Charlo. Messages of condolences may be shared with the family online at www.shriderthompson.com. Arrangements are under the care of Shrider-Thompson Funeral Home.
