A Ronan man was ordered to pay restitution of $67,007.62 to the victim of a stabbing in Ronan last December. The order was handed down in Polson District Court on July 22.

William Antione Jr., 31, was given the restitution order as part of a plea agreement, which was reached on June 3. The agreement resulted in an assault with a weapon conviction against Antione.

According to court records, on Dec. 22, 2019, Ronan Police Officer Brandon Smith was called to investigate a possible stabbing at an apartment complex. At the scene, Smith spoke to two witnesses. One of the witnesses gave consent for an apartment to be searched. Inside were two young children and signs of a struggle, such as a knocked over Christmas tree and chair, along with strewn-about items. The witness suggested the stabbing might have occurred at another apartment.

Three doors down, a second witness confirmed seeing Antoine with a knife but denied seeing a stabbing. Smith observed blood droplets at this apartment. District Judge James Manley also ordered Antione to complete 40 hours of a batterers’ intervention program.
