PABLO — For Head Coach Chrissie Ewing, the Lady Eagles’ record does not reflect the growth she had seen in her volleyball players.
This is the first year the school only has a junior varsity team. They are now 0-3.
“They are improving all-around one game at a time,” Ewing said. “(And) I was just really pleased with their game against Seeley-Swan.”
The Lady Eagles ended up losing hard fought battles to both Seeley-Swan (12-25, 23-25, 13-15) and St. Regis (25-21, 15-25, 7-15, 13-15).
Against Seeley-Swan the team had 12 kills with six of them coming from Janell Frost. They also had 12 aces and four digs. Jayme Wilder had four aces, as did Misty Mendoza.
Last Tuesday, the Lady Eagles also lost another tough match against Arlee. Freshman Violet Pablo served all 15 points during the final game of three against the Two Eagle River Lady Eagles. The Scarlets won 11-25, 21-25, 0-15.
The loss was the first match of the season for the Lady Eagles.
“The girls were a little nervous,” Ewing said. “But they’ll get it.”
Wilder had four out of the team’s seven aces. The Lady Eagles also had eight kills with two apiece from Amanda Quequesah and Frost. Josie Incashola, Mendoza and Wilder each had an assist.
Pablo had 11 aces, 10 digs and two kills. Freshman Elizabeth Morigeau tallied six aces, one kill and six digs. Sophomore Nicole Rang contributed nine digs and one kill. Sophomore Megan Tanner had nine digs, three kills and one assist. Freshman Amelia North had six digs; three kills, seven aces and four assists and sophomore Eula Fullerton contributed 11 digs and one kill, ace and assist.
The Lady Eagles will face Hot Springs away on Sept. 22.
