LAKE COUNTY – Polson VFW member Matt Lee was determined to honor Memorial Day during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Must keep the tradition alive,” he said after learning the downtown Polson Memorial Day Parade was canceled in an effort to keep the COVID-19 virus from spreading.
On Monday morning, fellow Polson VFW member Denny Lockwood joined Lee. The two marched down Main Street, holding the American flag. They continued their march to U.S. Highway 93 and went back to the VFW.
“It is the most honorable thing to do,” said Lee of their march. “This is the one day each year we stop to appreciate the cost of freedom. Patriots are honoring the sacrifices in their own way. I chose to walk.”
In Ronan, veterans marched down Main Street to the sound of bagpipes.
