RONAN – People in the Ronan community joined a worldwide teddy bear hunt to give children a fun scavenger-style game to play during the COVID-19 pandemic as schools and other social events are closed.
The Ronan Police Department is also participating in the game by putting stuffed bears in the back of their patrol cars. They are asking others to put a teddy bear or any other stuffed animal in a visible home window.
“We thought this would be a fun thing for the community during the quarantine, something to raise morale,” Ronan Police Officer Chris Moldenhauer said. He added that the patrol-car bears are moved to another location in the vehicle if an arrest is made.
The game was thought to be inspired by the children’s book “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” by Michael Rosen. Playing the game is simple. Children of all ages walk or ride with a guardian and look for stuffed bears strategically placed in windows, trees or porches.
People are getting creative with their displays. In Ronan, a small bear hangs next to a sign that says, “Hang in there. The last time I saw my mom, she was in a city patrol car.” The “mother bear” is riding in the back of Moldenhauer’s patrol car. Moldenhauer said the game could last for a few weeks and encouraged people to participate while continuing to follow social-distancing guidelines.
