The Polson Pirate wrestling team seems to be hitting its stride right before divisionals, downing Ronan and Whitefish last week.

Against Ronan, Polson picked up the first three wins of the match, as Alex Helgeson, Carlos Quinones and Craig Feistner set the tone for the remainder of the match.

Alex Nystrom picked up a win via pin over Lauren Christopher in the 140-pound class, while Tel Motichka won by major decision over Ronnie Cullis, 18-4.

Polson also won 119, 135 and heavyweight by forfeit, while Ronan won 171 by forfeit. The 105-weight category was a double forfeit. Hanging on to their early lead, Polson edged Ronan 43-36.

On Saturday, Jan. 28, Polson traveled to Whitefish, before taking on Columbia Falls later that day.

Against the Whitefish Bulldogs, Polson won every match, sweeping Whitefish 68-0.

Polson picked up eight pins in the win, as Helgeson pinned Garret Rice in 2:20 in the 105-weight class, while Quinones pinned Matt Barton in 3:17 in the 112 category.

Dylan Moll continued the streak, pinning Trysten Armstrong in only 23 seconds, while Feistner won by technical fall over Wyatt Price, 15-0.

In the 13-pound class, Drew Fouty pinned Judah Prestegaard in 1:19, while Skylar Anderson, 135 pounds, defeated Matt Sampson-Keck in 1:26 by pin.

Tel Motichka won by decision over Madison McWhirter in the 145-pound category, winning 4-3. Jared Young, 152 pounds, pinned Kyle Bowerman in 2:51, while Marlin Burke pinned Jacob Forrest in 1:20 in the 189 class.

Josiah Clairmont pinned Wolf Zinke in 48 seconds to pick up the final win of the meet.

Stats for Polson’s meet against Columbia Falls were unavailable by press time.

The Pirates will take a break until Feb. 4, when they head to Columbia Falls for the Northwestern A Divisional Tournament.
