FLIC wraps up with awards ceremony

POLSON — The eighth annual Flathead Lake International Cinemafest wrapped up its three-day film festival with an award ceremony on Sunday evening.
The festival allows filmmakers both local and from all over the world the opportunity to showcase their talent and creativity. The festival also offers filmmakers the chance to network and create new projects with fellow artists.
Showboat Cinemas hosted the festival from Jan. 24-26 and featured more than 60 films, playing on two screens, including full-length features, shorts, animation, student films and documentaries.
The film directed by Graham DuBose entitled “The Last Beyond” won four FLIC awards. The story was filmed in Montana and follows a white man and a Native American man who join forces to start a distillery in the wilderness during the prohibition era. The movie won the FLIC best picture-feature, FLIC best Montana film, FLIC Best Director and FLIC Best Original Score awards.
“Wuthering Heights” was another film that earned multiple awards, including the FLIC People’s Choice. The movie is an adaptation of Emily Bronte’s classic tale of undying love and tormented passion. The film was produced and directed by Montana native Bryan Ferriter and filmed in Europe. Ferriter also won the FLIC Best Male Actor and FLIC Best Cinematography awards.
Winning FLIC Best Female Actor was German actress Suzan Anbeh for her performance in “Effigy – Poison and the City.” The movie is about a small German town that is plagued by a serial killer. Everyone knows the culprit, but they can’t prove it. The film is based on a true story. It won the FLIC Best Foreign Film category.
The FLIC Best Picture-Documentary Short was given to “The Kaleidoscope Guy at the Market.” FLIC Best Junior Picture went to “Browning Rising Voices.” The FLIC Best film — Animation was “Maestro.” FLIC Best Picture-Short was given to “Montana,” and FLIC Best Picture-Documentary was awarded to “Life Interrupted.”
