Lady Pirates look strong with pair of midseason wins

It’s no question the Polson Lady Pirate hoopsters are a team to be reckoned with in Northwestern A. The Polson girls continue to hit their stride, winning over nonconference opponent Corvallis and Libby in Northwestern A last week. The two wins boosted Polson’s record to 2-1 in conference and 7-1 overall.
Riley Kenney continues to shine on the court, breaking double digits in both games, which combined for 34 points for Polson.
Against Corvallis, Polson didn’t waste any time heating up, outscoring Corvallis 21-10 in the first frame. Corvallis hung with Polson in the second, matching the Lady Pirates’ 15 points. At the break, Polson had a promising 36-25 lead.
The Lady Pirates held their lead throughout the second half, winning 57-45.
Kenney led the way with a game-high 16 points, while Mackenzie Banner and Anna DiGiallonardo both added 11.
Corvallis was led by Jordan Miller, who finished with 12 points. The Blue Devils fell to 1-6 with the loss.
On Saturday, Polson hosted Libby, where Riley Kenney scored 18 points to pace the Lady Pirates to a convincing 71-33 win in conference action.
Polson shot out to a 26-4 lead after the first eight minutes of play and led 42-19 at the break.
It was more of the same in the second half, with Polson shutting the door on the Lady Logger offense, holding Libby to only 14 points.
DiGiallonardo helped pave the way with another 11 points, while Mariah Hamel put up 10 points.
Libby was led by Kim Tangen, who scored 10 points to lead Libby. The Loggers fell to 0-3 in conference and 1-8 overall with the loss.
The Lady Pirates play Flathead at home Jan. 19 and Whitefish on the road Jan. 21.
