The Charlo Lady Vikings are looking like the team to beat as they continue to perform well in District 14-C. The Lady Vikings improved to 9-1 overall this past week after they downed Arlee and Hot Springs at home.
Against Arlee, Charlo started sluggishly as the Scarlets outscored Charlo 14-9 in the first frame. Charlo fought back in the second quarter with a 20-9 run that granted the Lady Vikings a 29-23 lead at halftime. It was more of the same in the second half, with Charlo scoring 15 points to Arlee’s nine in the third. Arlee put up 12 points in the fourth, but Charlo had taken control of the game by that time, winning 55-44.
Kinley Pope led the Lady Vikings with a double-double as she finished with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Jordan Ludeman added another 11 points, while Rachel Hoyt finished with eight.
Arlee was led by Whitney Malatare, who put up 14 points, while Alexis Shick added 11. The loss moved Arlee to 2-2 in conference and 3-5 overall.
On Saturday, Charlo made easy work of Hot Springs, where the Lady Vikings led early and never looked back, winning convincingly, 46-16.
Charlo led 17-3 after the first quarter, and Hot Springs picked up the intensity in the second quarter, scoring seven points to enter halftime down 26-10.
Charlo turned up the heat defensively in the second half, causing turnovers from a relentless full court man-to-man pressure, holding Hot Springs to only six additional points.Charlo was led by Deondra Brown, who led all scorers with 15 points, while Pope added 10.
Hot Springs was led by Hanna Retalick, who scored six points, while Alyssa Foster put up four points.
The Lady Vikings play Mission at home Jan. 19 and St. Regis Jan. 20.
