Scarlets overwhelm Victor, lose to Charlo

Mahalia Hendren topped all scorers with 22 points in the Scarlets’ 53-39 victory over the Victor Pirates Jan. 12.
The Scarlets led at halftime after senior Jenna Pablo hit a three-pointer, putting Arlee up 24-20.
Building off their early momentum, Hendren and the team went to work. Hendren scored 15 of her 22 points in the second half.
After the break, Tayla Desjarlais got the offense going with a three-pointer, which was followed by a steal and a layup by Whitney Malatare. From there it was all Scarlet basketball as the ladies pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring Victor 16-2.
“Mahalia always does well,” coach Richard Bachmeier said, noting that Hendren pulled down 13 rebounds. Malatare added to scoring, sinking 11 points.
In addition to double-figure scoring by Hendren and Malatare, Bachmeier also credited his bench in the win.
“We didn’t drop off; we are getting deeper, and I am pretty pleased,” Bachmeier added.
The Pirates’ Skye Mitcham led Victor with 19 points.
On Jan. 13, the Scarlets faced a tough Lady Vikings team in Charlo.
Arlee lost 55-44 as Charlo’s Kinley Pope sealed the win with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Jordan Ludeman scored 11 points.
Malatare and Alexis Shick put up 14 and 11 points for the Scarlets.
The Scarlets (2-2, 3-5) are on the road Jan. 20 at Superior and Jan. 21 in Hot Springs.
