Charlo head coach Mike Brown has a lot to smile about as his team continues to dominate District 14-C competition. The Vikings picked up two home wins last week over Arlee and Hot Springs.

“Arlee went pretty good,” Brown said. “The boys played pretty well and hard.”

Charlo’s starting five have few weaknesses, as Webb O’Neill, Stephen Delaney, Dillon Delaney, Kolten Andrews and Tra Ludeman all have the ability to explode with double-digit scoring.

“We’re pretty balanced,” Brown noted. “Any given night any of my boys can go off.”

O’Neill was the chosen one against Arlee, scoring 18 points to pace his team. Dillon Delaney also came to play, knocking down three 3-pointers, scoring 16 points. Stephen Delaney rounded out the scoring trio with nine points and 14 rebounds.

It was a close game early on, as Arlee was within two points at the end of the first. Charlo took off in the second, outscoring the Warriors 16-11 and leading 34-27 at the break.

The Vikings used a 14-6 fourth quarter to widen the gap, leading to a 64-46 win.

Arlee was led by Junior Sansavere, who finished the game with 16 points, while Josh Reed also finished with double digits, scoring 10.

On Saturday, Charlo took on 14-C foe Hot Springs at home, where the Vikings led early and won big, 72-51. Charlo exploded offensively in the second quarter, going on a 28-10 run.

The large lead allowed Charlo’s bench to get most of the second half to themselves, providing them with valuable playing experience.

“After halftime my guys looked like they were sleeping, so I put the young guys in after the starters picked it up,” Brown said.

O’Neill continues to play well in his first season as a starter for the Vikings, knocking down four 3-pointers and finishing with all of his 16 points in the first half.

Stephen Delaney finished with a double-double, scoring 14 points and 15 rebounds.

Charlo takes on Mission on the road in what should be another barnburner Jan. 19, and hosts St. Regis Jan. 20.

“We definitely need to work on defense, rebounding and figuring out how to not be slack in the beginning of the second half,” Brown said. “We also need to work on finishing games strong if we have the lead.”
