A Ronan man was committed at District Court in Polson on Oct. 23 to eight years with the Montana Department of Corrections with four years suspended for aggravated assault.
According to court records, Justice Raven Nicolai, 24, was in the Lake County Jail awaiting trial on drug distribution charges on July 4 when he allegedly pulled another inmate out of his bed. In the process, the man’s head was knocked on the toilet. Nicolai is then alleged to have kicked him in the face.
The victim had to be transported to the emergency room at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center where he was treated for “multiple facial fractures and a broken nose.”
Nicolai’s sentence followed terms of a plea agreement reached in September that dismissed the drug charge and a petition to revoke a previously suspended sentence.
