GREAT FALLS – The cross-country season officially ended on Saturday for Mission Valley high school teams during the All-Class Montana State Cross Country meet held at the Eagle Falls golf course in Great Falls.
With several inches of snow blanketing the racecourse overnight, area runners quickly adapted and turned in solid performances in the slick and sloppy conditions that were more suited for snowshoes than running shoes.
Mason Sloan earned Class A All-State honors with his 16:52.08 ninth-place finish and led the Polson Pirates to a tenth-place overall team finish. Top runners for the Lady Pirates were freshman Karli Owens with a time of 21:11.69 and Halle Heninger with a 21:12.90 finish. All-State Cross Country honors went to Ronan Maiden sophomore Analeta Yellow Bird for her 19:54.92 fourth-place finish in the girls Class A race. As a team, the Ronan Chiefs placed sixth. Finishing in the boys top 25 for the Chiefs were Brant Heiner, posting a time of 17:05.57, and James Normandeau, 17:17.00.
In Class B, Isaiah Nasewytewa (18:24.71) and Zoran LaFrombois (18:46.79) helped the Mission Bulldogs to a tenth-place team finish. Finishing just slightly off the top 25-leader board, Karolyna Buck paced the Lady Bulldog pack with a time of 23:24.44 minutes.
With a time of 20:21.81, Micah Johnson was the top finisher for the Arlee Warriors, while junior Cheyenne Pablo crossed the finish line with a time of 24:56.76 to lead the Arlee Scarlets. For the Class C Two Eagle River Eagles, junior runner Anthony Charlo placed in the top 25 with a time of 19:38.6, and Lahtai Finley led the Lady Eagles with 30:32.0. Guinevere Contreras (23:49.4) and Aryal Love (24:26.6) were the top runners for the Charlo Lady Vikings.
