Polson celebrates homecoming week, teams win games

POLSON – The Polson High School campus was buzzing with school spirit as the students, faculty and community members celebrated homecoming festivities last week.
Homecoming activities included a parade, pep assembly, hall decorating, float construction, tailgate party, dress-up days, a barbeque and bonfire and the crowning of the king and queen.
On Tuesday, both the Pirates and Lady Pirates soccer teams notched homecoming wins and moved to 3-5 on the season. In the girls game, Sophia Moderie scored the lone goal as the Lady Pirates defeated the Bigfork Valkyrie 1-0. Kaden Nelson led the Pirates with game high three goals as the boys outscored the Bigfork Vikings 5-2 in their win. Tray Lichtenberg and Elijah Taylor each scored a goal for the Pirates.
The Lady Pirates volleyball team kept the homecoming win streak alive by battling the visiting Libby Lady Loggers to a five-set 25-10, 10-25, 25-23,18-25,17-15 victory on Thursday. For the Lady Pirates, Maggie Todd had 18 kills and eight digs, while Misty Tenas racked up 11 kills, eight blocks and an ace. Lady Pirates Kobbey Smith (25) and Ara Mercer (26) combined for 51 digs on the night. Lena Pawloski led the Lady Pirates with 18 assists.
The annual homecoming parade capped off a busy week on Friday afternoon as the Polson High School marching band and student-made floats moved through town amongst the cheers of fans. Homecoming festivities continued Friday night with the Pirates football game against the Libby Loggers. Pirate quarterback Bo Kelley hit wide receiver Ryker Wenderoth for a 70-yard touchdown pass for the lone score in the game as the Loggers prevailed 45-6 over the Pirates.
During halftime, Davis Smith and Grace Quinones were crowned 2019 homecoming king and queen. The homecoming court consisted of freshmen class nominated Bo Kelley and Quinones. The sophomore class chose Gwen Seeley and Davis Smith. The junior class selected Misty Tenas and Garrett Croft, and the senior class voted for Harley Sorrell and Cali Cannon.
