Cross Country
During the Whitefish Invitational held at the Whitefish Lake Golf Course on Tuesday, Sept. 24, Ronan Chief cross country runner James Normandeau added another first-place trophy to his collection.
Normandeau paced the pack with a time of 16:51.94, helping his team to a third-place overall finish.
Rounding out the top 25 for the Chiefs were Brant Heiner in fifth followed by Michael Irvine in 14th place.
The Polson Pirates placed fourth as a team with Mason Sloan grabbing a third-place finish. Also for the Pirates, Kellen Norman finished in 17th, Isaac Stene placed 20th, and Ryan Dupuis placed 25th.
Finishing in the top 25 for the Mission Bulldogs were Isaiah Nasewytewa with 16th place and Zoran LaFrombois at 24th place.
Billy Fisher placed 26th for the Arlee Warriors, while Anthony Charlo finished with a time of 20:59.20 to lead the Two Eagle River Eagles.
On the girls side, the Polson Lady Pirates placed fourth in the team standings. For the Lady Pirates five runners placed in the top 25: Karli Owens (fourth), Halle Heninger (16th), Gwen Seeley (17th), Ashtyn Wagner (21st) and River Shoemake (24th).
The Ronan Maidens placed seventh with Olivia Heiner coming in as the top finisher in 27th place.
Charlo’s Lady Viking Aryal Love placed 32nd, Arlee Scarlet Cheyenne Pablo at 41st, Two Eagle River Lady Eagle Viviana After Buffalo-Adams at 57th and Mission Lady Emmy Flatlip at 58th.
Volleyball
Ronan Maidens
Madeline McCrea led the Ronan Maidens with a block and four kills in a 15-25, 15-25, 3-25 road loss to the Columbia Falls Wildkats on Tuesday, Sept. 24. Hannah Rowe had nine assists for the Maidens, while Rylie Lindquist had six digs and Regan Clairmont booked two aces.
Charlo Lady Vikings
Live Smith floored eight kills and had a block. Kassidi Cox had eight assist and a block helping the Charlo Lady Vikings to a straight set 25-11, 25-14, 25-6 road win over Victor on Thursday evening. Also, for the Lady Vikings, Carlee Fryberger had 11 digs and four aces, while sister Connor Fryberger had a block and a team high 10 assists.
On Saturday evening, the Lady Vikings kept their undefeated streak alive by defeating the visiting Plains Trotters 25-17 18-25 25-19 26-24 in District 14C action.
Smith (15) and Carlee Fryberger (12) combined for 27 of the Lady Vikings’ 36 kills. Connor Fryberger contributed 21 assists. Bella Hawk added five aces, and Cox had 18 digs.
Mission Lady Bulldogs
The Mission Lady Bulldogs battled in a five-set 23-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-15, 15-9 road win over Deer Lodge on Tuesday, Sept. 24. Karolyna Buck floored 18 kills for Mission. Hunter Eichert contributed 40 assists, and Azia Umphrey had 26 digs.
On Thursday, the Lady Bulldogs lost 15-25, 15-25, 17-25 to Thompson Falls. Buck had 13 kills and 19 digs as she and the Lady Bulldogs defeated the visiting Eureka Lady Lions 28-26, 17-25, 27-25, 25-22 on Saturday. Eichert had 35 assists for the Lady Bulldogs. Sydney Brander had 16 kills. Umphrey had 29 digs, and Olivia Garland served up four aces.
Football
Arlee Warriors
On Friday night, the Arlee Warriors fell 44-28 in a Class C conference match up with the visiting Darby Tigers.
Ronan Chiefs
On the road Friday evening in Whitefish, the Ronan Chiefs fell to the Whitefish Bulldogs 55-20 in a Northwestern A Conference matchup.
Mission Bulldogs
The Mission Bulldogs downed the Seeley-Swan Blackhawks 29-6 on the road Saturday in a Western C conference matchup.
Charlo Vikings
The Charlo Vikings, in Class C action at home on Friday, plundered the visiting Victor Pirates with a 54-6 win. Viking quarterback Wrangler Gaustad carried the ball 13 times for 52-yards and touchdown. Gaustad also completed five passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns. Also for the Vikings, running back Isaiah Allik rushed nine times for 51 yards and two touchdowns, while Bridger Foust had 49 yards on four carries and a touchdown.
Golf
Both the Polson High School and Ronan High School boys and girls golf teams competed during the Western A Golf Divisional Tournament at the King Ranch Golf Course in Frenchtown on Thursday.
Cali Cannon and Trey Kelley were Polson’s highest-placing golfers with Cannon carding a 97 and Kelley shooting an 86 on the day. As a team, the Lady Pirates placed fourth with a score of 423, while the Pirates tied with the Ronan boys team for ninth place with a team score of 429 points.
The Ronan Maidens finished with a fifth-place team score of 433. For Ronan, Ruben Couture shot a 96 to lead the Chiefs, while for the Maidens Macao Jackson finished twelfth carding a score of 102.
