RONAN – Typical fall-like weather, cool temperatures and cloudy skies, welcomed this year’s visitors as they strolled amongst the many craft and food vendors during the 11th annual Ronan Harvest Fest. The event was held behind the Visitor’s Center along U.S. Highway 93 on Saturday.

Hosted by the Ronan Chamber of Commerce, the festival featured a little something for everyone from homemade crafts and baked good to family-friendly activities like making apple cider.

“I just came down to do a little shopping and enjoy the good food,” said Shelby Doll, who also brought along her furry canine friend Misty. “I also have some friends who have booths here so I came down to give them a little support.”

Kids of all ages enjoyed making giant bubbles dipping a circle yarn tied to two sticks into large trays of special bubble making sauce. “This is cool; they’re huge,” said youngster Elijah Bell of the bubbles.

The smoky aromas from the fourth annual Mission Valley Dutch Oven Cook-Off was a crowd favorite. Larry Hall won the cook-off in the elite group, while Gerry Gankel followed up with second place. In the novice category, Andy Dorrington won with his grandpa Andy’s artisan bread and grandpa Andy’s Libby logger beans. Andrew Snyder finishing second and Donna Weaver placing third.

“My enter was a lobster mac and cheese dish and a cheesecake custard,” said first-time competitor Donna Weaver. “I started learning how to cook in a Dutch oven back in May and my husband talked me into entering.”

Also, part of the annual festivities is an increasingly popular hay bale decorating contest. This year, 54 hay bales where entered. Winners of the 2019 Harvest Fest Hay Bale Competition were Mission Valley Power in first place, CSKT Tribal Health in second place and third place was Rocky Mountain Twist.

On Saturday, Ronan Les Schwab also held its annual car show where more than 60 vintage vehicles filed the parking lot of the former Ronan Sports and Western store.
