CHARLO – The Charlo Lady Vikings volleyball squad opened homecoming weekend on Thursday evening with a non-conference 25-21, 23-25, 26-24, 25-23 win over visiting Class B Mission Lady Bulldogs.
Kassidi Cox led Charlo with 21 digs and 10 assists. Liev Smith had nine kills and 17 digs.
Junior setter Connor Fryberger set the pace for the Lady Vikings with 16 assists. Bella Hawk served three aces. Kira McPhail had four of the Lady Vikings seven blocks, and Carlee Fryberger had 11 kills.
On Friday afternoon, the community turned out to show Viking pride during the school’s annual homecoming parade. Later that evening, the football action began. In a clash with reigning state champion Flint Creek Titans, the Vikings fell 46-20 to the Titans after holding a 20-16 lead in the fourth quarter.
Senior Viking running back Isaiah Allik rushed 19 times for 119 yards and two touchdowns with the longest being a 47-yard first-quarter touchdown to put the Vikings up 8-0. Viking Braydon Zempel grabbed a seven-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Coyle Nagy.
During the halftime homecoming festivities, senior Kira McPhail was honored as homecoming queen, and senior Bridger Foust was named homecoming king.
Wrapping up homecoming competition on Saturday afternoon, the Lady Vikings kept their perfect season intact with a 25-13 25-23 25-14 three-set home victory over Noxon. Hawk put down 10 kills to lead the Lady Vikings. Carlee Fryberger contributed five aces and 20 digs. McPhail had five blocks and five kills. Connor Fryberger (15) and Cox (8) combined for 23 of the 28 Lady Viking assists.
The Lady Vikings are on the road in a Class C matchup with Valley Christian in Missoula on Friday and compete in the Arlee Scarlet’s hosted tournament on Saturday.
The Vikings travel to St. Ignatius to play the Mission Bulldogs on Friday night during their homecoming celebration.
