RAVALLI — The Lake County Sheriff’s Office released the name of the deceased in Aug. 6th’s fatal two-vehicle accident near Ravalli Curves.
Kenneth Ahlborn, a 46-year-old Ravalli resident, was ejected from his pickup truck and killed instantly after colliding head-on with a semi-truck around 6:22 a.m.
Responding trooper Terry Rosenbaum said according to witness statements, Ahlborn was traveling southbound and drifted into the northbound lane. Attempting to avoid a collision, the semi driver moved into the southbound lane. At the last moment, Ahlborn directed his vehicle back into the southbound lane, colliding head-on with the semi-truck.
Both vehicles caught fire and were fully engulfed within minutes. The semi-truck was hauling electrical transformers. These were not active at the time of the accident and were not damaged.
Rosenbaum said a small section of highway had cracked due to the extreme heat of the fire.
The semi-driver and his female passenger were transported to St. Luke’s Hospital and released later the same day. Blood samples were taken from both drivers per procedure to determine if alcohol was a factor in the wreck. Undersheriff Daniel Yonkin said the results of these tests are still several weeks away.
According to Ahlborn’s obituary in the Missoulian, “There’s not enough time or space to tell you all the wonderful things that were Kenneth George Ahlborn.”
Ahlborn attended high school throughout the Mission Valley and Hot Springs. A firefighter, mason, logger and log home builder, he is survived by his parents, sister, wife Marnie and children Spencer and Briar.
