RONAN – Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy Nathan White was hospitalized after receiving burns to his face and hands when a carburetor exploded in his face on Tuesday, Aug. 6.
“He is home and under care, but it’s going to be a while before he is back to work,” Lake County Sheriff Don Bell said. “He has a lot of healing to do, but he is in good spirits.”
White had stopped to help a motorist with a broken-down vehicle before the explosion occurred near the old Boys and Girls Club building in Ronan on U.S. Highway 93.
Deputy White was looking at the car’s engine when the carburetor exploded. Gas sprayed from the explosion and caused extensive burns to his face and hands with most of the damage to his left side. His glasses protected his eyes.
After being burned, White called for assistance. Sheriff’s Office deputies quickly responded, and White was taken to the St. Luke Community Healthcare hospital by ambulance. He was then flown with the ALERT fixed-wing air ambulance to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. He was released the same day he was admitted to the hospital.
Donations for the deputy and his family are being accepted at the Sheriff’s Administration Office at the Lake County Courthouse, located in the downstairs section.
Bell said Senator Daines called and asked for an update on the deputy’s condition as did people with sheriff’s offices across the state and local community members. Bell recently received a message from White. “He said he appreciates the support and help from the medical staff. He is also glad to be recovering at home.”
“White and the Sheriff’s Office are very grateful for the outpouring of support from the community and other law enforcement partners,” Bell said.
