Pirates win 1 of 2 at Tip Off tourney

The Polson Pirate boys basketball team got off to a good start Friday, beginning the Tip Off Tournament with a convincing 67-47 win over Anaconda in Columbia Falls.
After the first quarter of play, the Pirates led 21-11 and extended their lead 32-20 at the half.
The Copperheads hung in with Polson in the third, outscoring the Pirates 15-8, but by that time Polson had built a comfortable 52-35 lead.
Polson continued to roll, putting up an additional 15 points in the fourth to secure its opening game of the season with a 67-47 win.
Polson senior Vince DiGiallonardo showed he’s more than an All-State football athlete, scoring 21 points to lead the Pirates. Teammate Cody Fischer added 15, while Ian Laimbeer put up nine.
Anaconda was led by Jackson Wagner, who finished the game with 18 for his team.
On Saturday, the Pirates took on Dillon in Whitefish, who handed Polson their first loss, 53-42. Polson got off to a strong first quarter, leading 17-11 at the beginning of the second. Dillon took over in the second, outscoring Polson 16-9, giving the Beavers a one-point advantage heading into halftime.
The Beavers’ luck continued in the second half, outscoring Polson 26-16, earning them the 53-42 victory.
Polson was led by Will Davey who put up 13 points, while teammate Zach Camel added another 11. Fischer finished with 5 points.
For Anaconda, Wes Knox led the way with 19 points, while Troy Scott added 8.
The Pirates continue their season this Saturday on the road at Hamilton.
