Polson junior Riley Kenney appears to be an early season threat for the Lady Pirates. At the opening season Tip Off Tournament in Columbia Falls and Whitefish, Kenney scored a game high 21 against Anaconda, followed by a 22-point performance against Dillon.
Polson got off to a hot start against Anaconda on Friday and never looked back, leading the Copperheads 13-6 after the first quarter. The Lady Pirates went up big at the half, leading 34-17.
The Copperheads made a big push in the fourth quarter, outscoring Polson 19-12, however, it was too late, as Polson ran away with a 66-50 win.
Along with 21 points, Kenney made seven of eight free throw attempts, helping Polson complete 17 of their 26 attempts from the line.
Heidi Rausch finished the game with 14 points, while Anna DiGiallonardo contributed 11.
For Anaconda, Jayme Stergar led with 11 points.
The following day, the Lady Pirates moved to Columbia Falls, where they were tested by a talented Dillon team, edging the Beavers 49-36.
Polson jumped out to a 12-9 lead after the first quarter, but Dillon hung with Polson during the second, heading to the locker room with a 24-22 advantage.
In the fourth quarter, Polson rallied to outscore Dillon 16-4 to pull out the 49-36 win and begin the season with a 2-0 record.
Kenney led Polson with 22 points, while Rausch added 11. DiGiallonardo finished with 6 points.
The Lady Pirates continue their season against Hamilton on the road on Dec. 17.
