Three Mission wrestlers took their first tournament wins in Superior. Barret Sargent, Chadd Anderson and Fabian Camacho all won their weight divisions. Sargent (171) defeated Arlee’s Clayton Trimble 6-2; Anderson (189) championed Thompson Falls’ Eric Milner 5-4 and heavyweight Camacho pinned Browning’s Dakota Rutherford in 4:35.
The Libby wrestling team won the tournament with 189.5 points and won six of the 15 individual championships. Frenchtown was second with 158.5 points, and St. Ignatius/Charlo scored 142.5 points to take third.
“I’m really excited about our early success with all those who placed,” said head coach Lyle Cronk.
Jacen Petersen (160) finished second after a loss by a 5-6 decision to Dylan Berget of Libby. Scotty Gilleard (131) took third after 7-3 decision over John Gunderson of Thompson Falls.
Cronk also noted showings from freshman Steven Bravo and sophomore Cody Couture, who went 3-2 at the tournament and finished one match from placing.
“That’s pretty cool to have a freshman win three matches,” Cronk added. “(And) especially to have three champions, that is a big deal confidence-wise and for the team.”
On Saturday, the team competes in the Corvallis Tournament.
