LAUREL – A trio of Mission Valley athletes won gold at their respective Montana State Track and Field Championship meets on Friday and Saturday.

Polson Lady Pirate Bea Frissell added another two State Class A titles to her ever-expanding trophy case, winning the girls’ championship in the 1600 with a time of 5:00.10 and the 3200 with a mark of 10:47.33. Both win times where personal bests and school records for her.

Charlo Viking Wills DeGrandpre earned a State Class C title in the boys’ 1600 with a time of 4:39.28 and placed third in the 3200 with a time of 10:13.15 minutes.

DeGrandpre wasn’t the only Charlo athlete to win a State Class C title in Laurel this past weekend.

Charlo’s Carlee Fryberger took the state title in the Class C 100-meter dash and easily outpaced the competition with a personal best of 12.70 seconds and raced to a state title in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.81 seconds. Fryberger also placed third in the 200-meter dash.

Fryberger’s first-place finishes helped nudge the Lady Vikings, who scored 48 team points, past Fort Benton, who scored 43 team points, for a State Class C second place team finish.

The Lady Vikings also had contributions with their third place 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay team of Kaitlin Cox, Tyrah Hammond, Allie Delaney and Fryberger.

Rounding out the top six place finishers for the Lady Vikings were Cox who booked second place in the triple jump with a jump of 35-02.50 and Delaney who placed fifth in the 300-meter hurdles.

On the boys’ side for the Vikings, Landers Smith grabbed a fourth-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles.

Peyton Lammerding notched a fourth-place finish in the shot put and a sixth-place finish in the discus for the Class C Arlee Scarlets. Arlee Warrior Garrett Stringer was the top finisher with an eighth place in the long jump.

Also competing in Laurel were the Class A Polson and Ronan boys and girl track teams.

Along with Frissell’s two state titles, Lady Pirate Mikaela Ducharme posted two top-six finishes with a fourth in the long jump and a fifth in the triple jump, while Pirate Mason Sloan ran a fifth-place finish in the 3200 and Colby Soderquist placed sixth in the pole vault.

There were two double-placers for Ronan. James Normandeau placed fourth in both 800 and 1600, while Maiden Kinsley Barney raced to a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash and a fifth in the 100-meter dash. The Maiden 4x100 relay team of Tiana Ulutoa, Rylie Lindquist, Lindsey Brooks and Kinsley Barney placed sixth.

Competing in the Montana State B Track Meet in Kalispell, the Mission Bulldogs girls track and field team posted a couple top six finishes. Sydney Brander took fourth in the triple jump with 34-06.5, while her older sister Afton Brander nabbed fifth in the triple jump with 34-03 and posted a sixth-place finish in the high jump with a mark of 4-10. The top finisher for the Mission boys was Flint McPherson with a twelfth place posting in the triple jump.
