News from St. Ignatius School District
ST. IGNATIUS – The St. Ignatius School District is among the top 50 schools in the running to win a $75,000 art education donation thanks to the Vans Custom Culture competition.
Students need your help to rally the community to help them become one of the top five finalists. The grand-prize winner will receive $75,000 for their art program, a visit from Vans for a celebration on their school campus filled with art and music, and the four runners-up will be awarded $10,000 each.
We would love your assistance to spread the word and help St. Ignatius students win much-needed support for their art program. Through May 3, people can visit customculture.vans.com to cast their vote for St. Ignatius.
For the contest, Vans sent us two pairs of white shoes. The student artists Azia Rain Umphrey, Olivia Garland and Maria Bugeda de Bonilla worked to create a pair of shoes with a “local flavor” that depicts the Bison Range, St. Ignatius Mission, Mission Mountains and local wildflowers.
For the “off the wall” themed shoes, Yvonne Baty attached two shoes at the soles and created a realistic bison skull complete with a bitterroot illustration. Annalysia DuMontier added beadwork and other decorations to the horns to reflect the local Native American culture.
Winning this award would help transform our art program in St. Ignatius.
