Editor,
How many warnings do we need before Congress and the Administration awaken to the critical need to develop our own energy needs and stop depending upon oil from the unstable parts of the world? It is time for every American to push for action in the development of our domestic oil.
Drilling should have begun in ANWAR years ago when President Clinton vetoed it. There is already infrastructure in place with only 74 miles of additional pipeline needed to connect the new supplies with the pipeline from Prudhoe Bay. It has been proven that animals and terrain have not suffered as the environmentalists would claim.
Our Montana economy could catch up with North Dakota's if drilling expands in the Bakken. Congress must stop the impending insane actions consuming billions of dollars Congress does not have in developing oil reserves in Brazil. Is it possibly true that the U.S. will not receive one drop as it is all earmarked for China? Congress must put the brakes on the out-of-control spending in this out-of-touch Administration.
Young Americans are shedding their blood to try to save our Republic. What are you doing?
First, please send letters to Senators Tester, Baucus, Representative Rehberg, and President Obama requesting that they push their colleagues in Washington to develop domestic resources in our own country now. Second, urge everyone on your email lists in our state and others to contact their state's congressional delegation. If we can raise a public outcry across the country, perhaps Congress and the Administration can no longer ignore the critical need for an independent oil supply. This is the least we on the home front can do. Addresses: Senator Max Baucus, max@baucus.senate.gov; Senator Jon Tester, senator@tester.senate.gov; Representative Denny Rehberg, www.house.gov/rehberg; The White House, http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/.
