CORVALLIS - The Ronan/St. Ignatius track squads opened their seasons down south in the Bitterroot Valley this weekend as the girls picked up a fifth-place finish while the boys came in 10th to start the year.
The 400-meter relay team set the pace for RSI on the track with a top finish in their race with a time of 55.28 seconds while Adessa Durglo made her mark on the field events by finishing first in triple jump with a leap of 32 feet, 8 and 3/4 inches, third in the long jump with a distance of 15 feet, 6 inches and fifth in the high jump after clearing 4 feet, 8 inches.
LaGlen Mitchell had a good day on the track for RSI, finishing third in the 200-meter run with a time of 30.22 seconds and also did well in the field events with a throw of 90 feet, 11 inches to come in fourth in the javelin.
Kianna Howell picked up a pair of sixth-place finishes for RSI in the 100 and 400-meter events. Lindsay Barber was fourth in the 400-meter run while Sarah Lucero came in sixth.
Twyla Hogge picked up a fifth-place finish in the shot put and Jenny Larson was fourth in the high jump.
The RSI boys squad opened the season with a 10-place finish Saturday after picking up just a total of 29 team points.
The duo of Erik Malmquist and Marcus Hungerford combined to secure most of points for RSI on the day as Malmquist finished third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.48 seconds, third in the high jump with a leap above 5 feet, 10 inches and fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.77 seconds. Hungerford was third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:09.2 and sixth in the high jump after clearing 5 feet, 8 inches. Alex Aliadadi finished fifth for RSI in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.5 seconds while the 1,600-meter relay team came in fourth with a time of 3:55.3.
