RONAN — A Nov. 9 grass fire burned less than an acre at mile marker 46 on U.S. Highway 93 outside of Ronan.
A nearby homeowner was burning a debris pile the day before, and the fire rekindled and burned south and west along the edge of Hwy. 93.
“It’s a good thing (Hwy. 93) was there for a break,” Ronan Volunteer Firefighter Chris Adler noted.
It’s unusual to have a grass fire in November, Ronan Fire Chief Mark Clary added, especially with all the moisture.
“It just goes to show (grass) can burn at any time,” Clary said.
No one was injured, no structures burned and the Ronan Fire Department employed water, flappers, and four trucks of firemen to stamp out the flames.
