Children in schools on the Flathead Indian Reservation are working with professional writers to create poems during a weekly workshop developed by the Missoula Writing Collaborative. This is a poem by Amelya who was working with writer Anna Zumbahlen.
Friendship is the first snow
by Amelya
When
a friend
holds a
friend’s
hand,
it’s like
a Christmas
song playing
from a band.
The friend’s
laughter is
full with
glee,
like a
warm cup
of simmering
tea.
A friend
hugged the
other with
a hard
squeeze.
The other
had a small
wheeze.
