Mission enters Divisionals as No. 4 seed

FLORENCE — Two losses was not how the Mission Lady Bulldogs were hoping to enter divisional play. They hoped to be seeded higher, but are the No. 4 seed after being defeated by Loyola Sacred Heart and Deer Lodge in Florence. The Lady Bulldogs were off offensively and defensively in both games, said head coach Kendal Anderson.
“It wasn’t how we wanted to start out,” Anderson said.
Loyola swept St. Ignatius 25-21, 25-22, 25-22. The Lady Bulldogs started off slow in the first set but found some offensive strength behind the hitting of Sara Nerby, who had seven kills, but it wasn’t enough and the Lady Bulldogs also lost the second set.
In the third set, the Breakers started out quick and the score was soon 2-10. St. Ignatius battled back and forced the Breakers to call a timeout with the score 12-16. But offensive and defensive errors plagued the Lady Bulldogs, and they lost 3-0.
Errors and lack of communication contributed to the 3-2 loss to Deer Lodge.
“Everything was good in the first two games,” Anderson said.
The Lady Bulldogs won the first two sets 19-25 and 14-25 but fell apart in the next three sets, 27-25, 25-15, 15-8.
“We weren’t aware of each other on the court and kept running into each other,” Anderson said. “For the next three days we will be working on those mental blocks.”
Anderson mentioned that the team would watch film of themselves in preparation for their first game against Eureka at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
“We’ve only seen Eureka once this season, and it was during the second week,” said Anderson. “They have changed since then, and we’ve changed since then. We will spend the next three days focused on Eureka.”
