The 2018 season came to an end for the Charlo Lady Vikings volleyball team with a fourth-place divisional finish in Saturday’s 3-0 loss to the Ennis Mustangs.
The defending Class C state champion Mustangs defeated the Lady Vikings 25-17, 25-15, 25-20 in Western C Divisional action at the Memorial Event Center in Manhattan.
Charlo finished the season with a record of 21-4, including a 5-4 mark in post-season play.
Senior outside hitter Kaitlin Cox recorded 22 digs, smashed 15 kills and contributed two blocks and two aces in her final game for the Lady Vikings.
Charlo will lose four seniors from this year’s roster, including Cox, Teaira Truman, Allie Delaney and Aubrey Doty. The rest of the girls will return with head coach Rhondell Volinkaty.
In Class B girls’ volleyball divisional action in Florence, the Mission Lady Dawgs finished off their 2018 season with a 3-0 loss to Florence on Thursday and a 3-2 loss to Loyola on Friday.
First-year Lady Dawg head coach Rhandy Cox didn’t let the losing scores diminish the fantastic season her team has had. “This team has come so far from last year and the beginning of the season,” Cox said. “We started off strong with some big wins and on the road. This group of girls has some of the best mental attitudes I’ve worked with.”
The Polson Lady Pirates closed out their 2018 season by posting a 1-2 record in last weekend’s Western A Divisional volleyball tournament in Whitefish.
First-year Lady Pirate head coach Lizzy Cox saw her team fall 25-20, 25-10, 25-7 to Corvallis, the eventual Western A Divisional champions in Whitefish on Thursday.
The Lady Pirates split double-elimination matches on Friday. In the first match, the Lady Pirates battled and outlasted Dillon in five sets, 25-20, 21-25, 25-18, 21-25, 15-9. In the second match, the Lady Pirates faced elimination in three sets 25-15, 25-16, 25-22 from Columbia Falls.
