BELGRADE – The Polson Pirates football team opened up their season on a good note after crushing non-conference opponent Belgrade 40-0, last Friday while on the road at Belgrade. Vince DiGiallonardo led the Pirate offense, running for two touchdowns and passed for another in the win. DiGiallonardo’s had nine carries for 67 yards and had two completions for 60 yards.
Paul McClurg ran 11 times for 63 yards, with two touchdowns, one on a 3 yard run and the other on a one-yard run. Beau Mills finished with seven carries for 51 yards, and also scored the final touchdown for Polson. Chris Cote had 11 carries for 57 yards, while Justin Hoel had one catch for 45 yards.
DiGiallonardo picked up the first touchdown on a 15-yard run, and then scored on the ground again with a 12-yard run towards the end of the game. DiGiallonardo connected with Ian Laimbeer in the air for a 14-yard touchdown.
The Pirates host the Hamilton Broncs at home Sept. 9.
