Lady Bulldogs place 3rd at Divisional Tournament

ST. IGNATIUS — On the last day at the Western B Divisional tournament in Eureka, the Lady Bulldogs were just one game away from a State tournament berth. Two days prior they had fought their way from being seeded No. 4 to downing No. 1 seed Eureka, 3-2, on Thursday. That same day they went on to defeat Bigfork, 3-1.
“The first day our passing was really good,” coach Kendal Anderson said. “The setters could decide who to set to because of the good passes. They were also talking to one another.”
On Friday, the Lady Bulldogs met up with the District 6-B champion Florence Falcons, who swept through the Western B Divisional volleyball tournament undefeated. With the win over Mission, the Falcons earned a spot to the championship game.
After the loss, the Lady Bulldogs challenged Thompson Falls for the second spot in the championship game, but lost 3-1. The loser took third.
“The hardest part was seeing the faces of the girls when they knew their season was over,” Anderson said.
Florence ended up trumping Thompson Falls, 3-0. The Falcons and Bluehawks both gained entry to the State tournament starting Thursday in Bozeman.
“The season had its ups and downs,” Anderson said. “(But) the whole tournament was fun, and you always want to finish the season strong.”
Next year the Lady Bulldogs return three starters and fresh talent.
“It may take awhile for us to find our defense, but we have definite talent coming up,” Anderson said.
