The Maidens softball team had no problem blowing by Butte Central Saturday at the Frenchtown Invitational, where Ronan scored 15 runs in the first inning and sent the ladies from Butte home early, with the game called after four innings due to the 10-run margin rule.
Senior catcher Lindsay Clairmont led the Maidens with five RBIs and a double, while sophomore Alaina Madsen added four RBIs with her three hits. Samantha Colman knocked in a home run on top of three RBIs, as well as pitching the whole game to chalk up her first win on varsity.
In other tourney matchups, the Maidens lost to Columbia Falls, 3-2, Anaconda, 8-4, and Corvallis. Complete results were not available by press time, but head coach Tom Peterson noted the losses didn't reflect the team's ability, as he wanted to give some junior varsity players more field time and see what positions are good fits for some lesser-played athletes.
Earlier in the week, the Maidens swept Loyola in two heartbreakers for the visiting team, winning the first game 15-0 and the second 17-5. Both were called early because of a 10-run margin.
The Maidens traveled to Eureka Tuesday and will break until they host Drummond May 8.
