News from Daughters of the American Revolution

Ronan resident Sandra “Sandy” Janelle Cain Taylor was recognized as the Most Valuable Daughter for 2017 of Kalispell’s Chief Ignace Chapter at the state conference celebrating 124 years of service in Montana this week.

Taylor retired with her husband Bruce in 2015 and moved from Texas to Big Sky Country when she transferred her DAR membership to Chief Ignace Chapter. “Being named the first Most Valuable Daughter of my new DAR Chapter is such an honor,” Sandy exclaimed! She was recognized primarily for her outstanding contributions to the 100th Anniversary celebrations, taking responsibility for researching 100 years of old scrapbooks, writing and layout of public relations and the media award-winning anniversary booklet and other print items. After reading about the 13-star flag that Chief Ignace Chapter owned, she set out to find the flag and didn’t give up until it was back in the chapter’s possession. Taylor will be installed as chapter historian later this month.

All women who belong to DAR are direct descendants of men and women who contributed to the American Revolution that began in 1776. DAR is a non-profit, non-partisan professional organization of chapters in all 50 states, its territories, and 13 other countries dedicated to historic preservation, education and patriotism for all women who love America and the principles of liberty and equal opportunity for all. DAR especially is known for education support and student scholarships, American history essay contests, and awards; welcoming new citizens at new citizenship ceremonies multiple times a year throughout Montana and across the country; services to veterans and active military worldwide; and preserving cemeteries, historical records, genealogy, buildings, and monuments.
