HAMILTON – Boxing fans from across Montana witnessed the future of boxing and cheered on young talent this past weekend. The Hamilton Eagles Boxing Club hosted the 2018 Montana Junior Olympic Boxing Tournament at the Ravalli County Fairgrounds in Hamilton on Friday and Saturday. Three local boxers from the Polson Boxing Club participated in the tournament. The first boxer to enter the ring for club Polson was Matiya Nenemay, an 8-year-old from Arlee. It was the first ever fight and victory for Nenemay, who has only been training since January of this year. “Matiya in his first match showed great skill,” Polson Boxing Club founder Matt Lee said. “Matiya adapted quickly to competition and will be impressing audiences for years to come.” The veteran of the group, Kellen Norman, a 14-year-old out of Polson, fought both nights for club Polson. Norman has been training at the Polson Club for the last two years and has about a dozen bouts under his belt. “Kellen fought two tough opponents and prevailed over each,” Lee said. “Kellen works harder in the ring than any other boxer in Montana. No matter the pain or how exhausted he is, Kellen will be throwing punches and moving forward.” Polson High School senior John Peterson stepped into the competitive ring for the first time on Friday, in the final match of the evening. While most of his experience has been gained through sparring sessions at practice, Peterson showed an impressive performance in a grueling and physical three-round battle, which ended with his opponent getting the decision. This tournament concluded the season for the Polson Boxing Club. Organized practices will return in December and updates will be posted on the club’s Facebook page, “Polson Boxing Club.”
