POLSON — Zombies, mummies, werewolves and other scary creatures are gathering at 712 1st Street E. for a haunted house. Held in the old probation office and filled with live performers and the undead, the haunted house will be open on Oct. 28, 29 and again on Halloween. Hours are from 6 to 10 p.m., with the house open until midnight on Halloween. Beware of spiders, bats and witches. Cost for a good scare is $2 for adults and $1 for kids under 12. While the event is not suitable for small children, it is wheelchair accessible. Proceeds will go towards providing Christmas for homeless children.

If people don’t want to partake of the scary good time but would like to donate, a jar will be available at Schultz Refrigeration.

Nancy Hausermann and her crew are building sets and decorating the space. Bev’s Bloomers and others donated cornstalks for eerie crackling, but the ghouls, ghosts, monsters and cauldrons are all Hausermann’s.

“I’ve been collecting stuff for a long time,” she said, smiling and making a note to collect her coffins this weekend.

For anyone who would like to lend a hand or a chainsaw, Hausermann said she really needs live performers for the haunted house, since many of her actors only can work for one night or want to go trick-or-treating.

Hausermann added that the money would provide a little Christmas cheer for homeless people and people who have fallen through the cracks. Either they have lost their jobs and homes, or have been forced to move in with other families.

Hausermann is also collecting coats, gloves, boots, blankets and hats for the homeless. It doesn’t matter if the clothing and blankets are used as long as they are in decent shape, she said. If you have items but can’t get them to Hausermann, call her at 883-1664 and she’ll come pick them up.
