Pierre gets five years in DOC for 8th, 9th DUIs

POLSON — Patrick Allen Pierre was sentenced for his eighth and ninth DUIs earlier this month.
Missoula District Court Judge John W. Larson sentenced Pierre, a Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal elder and Plains resident who turned 89 on Jan. 28, to four years and one month in the Department of Corrections on the first offense and five years in DOC on the second. The sentences will run concurrently.
Pierre was charged following traffic stops on U.S. Highway 93 on March 13 and 24 last year. He had a blood alcohol content of .207 and .227 in those incidents, a court document states.
In his order, which Larson signed Jan. 4, he ordered Pierre to complete a 13-month residential alcohol treatment program with the remainder of the sentence to be served on probation.
Pierre was also ordered to pay for outpatient alcohol treatment during the term of his probation and was given a $5,000 fine on each charge plus fees and credit for four days in jail.
Larson ordered him to participate in or observe the Lake County Drug Court for a time to be determined by the court, which is overseen by Lake County District Court Judge James A. Manley.
Judge Kim Christopher recused herself from the case on April 27 last year and invited Larson to adjudicate after defense attorney Ben Darrow motioned for a new judge.
