Wenzel and Adler take second at Rocky Mountain Classic
MISSOULA – The Pirates did not have an individual champion, but used their depth to finish ninth in the team standings with 109 points and Ronan finished sixteenth with 66 points while competing in the 32-team Jug Beck Rocky Mountain Classic at Sentinel Gym in Missoula on Friday and Saturday.
For the Pirates, Bridger Wenzel (132) and Parker Adler (152), both placed second with Hunter Fritsch (170) grabbing fourth place and Mateo Quinones (113) finishing in seventh place.
Top finishers for Ronan were Trapper McAllister (103) and Spencer Stagg (120) at seventh place and Owen Brown (126) at eighth place.
Shick places third at Choteau Classic Invitational
CHOTEAU — On Friday and Saturday, Mission/Charlo and Arlee wrestling teams competed in the 29-team Choteau Classic Invitational wrestling tournament. Mission/Charlo finished ninth in the team standings with 77 points while Arlee finished sixteenth with 42 points. George Shick (182) was the top finisher for the Arlee Warriors at third place followed by Jace Samsel (103) at fourth place.
Walker Murphy (113), Robert Dempsey (120) and Darwin Adams (138) all placed fourth and Cole Gilleard (132) place sixth for the Mission/Charlo Bulldogs.

Philip Malatare scored a game high 27 points, Greg Whitesell scored 19 and Will Mesteth added 12 more as the Warriors beat the Bulldogs 73-57 on Jan. 9. In the home loss, Bulldogs’ Wacey McClure also scored a game high 27 followed by 18 points from Jacob Hugs.

Behind a 25-point outburst from Greg Whitesell, Arlee had little trouble routing hosting Two Eagle River 99-40 on Saturday. Will Mesteth added 22 points, Phillip Malatare had 19 points and Isaac Fisher finished the night with 12 points for the Warriors. Brendan McDonald had a team high 12 points and was the only player in double figures for Two Eagle River.

The Scarlets grabbed a 58-48 road win from the Lady Bulldogs on Jan. 9. Alyssia Vanderburg scored a game high 30 points and Nellie Desjarlais scored 14 points for the Scarlets. The Lady Bulldogs had three scorers in double digits, Karolyna Buck had 18 points, Azia Umphrey scored 14 points and Syd Brander followed up with 11 points.

The Scarlets dominated the Lady Eagles in the first half 47-10 Saturday before taking its foot off the gas in a 60-18 road win. Alyssia Vanderburg outscored Two Eagle River by herself, finishing with 35 points. Nellie Desjarlais added 10 points for Arlee. Malanya Carpentier led Two Eagle with 12 points.

On Jan. 9, the Chiefs fell 60-45 to the visiting Sentinel Spartans. Anthony Camel scored a game high 21 and Zeke Misa scored 18 points for the Chiefs.

Ronan managed to withstand a furious 22-12 fourth-quarter rally by Mission for a 69-52 home win over the Lady Bulldogs on Saturday. Micalann McCrea scored a game-high 22 points for Ronan while Louetta Conko-Carmel added 14 points. Syd Brander led Mission with 16 points.

On Saturday, it took the visiting Pirates double over time to topple the Libby Loggers 65-63.
Pirates’ Shade Main led all scorers with 27 points. Teammates Connor Lanier added 12 points and Weston Danley had 11 points.
