POLSON — Polson High School's varsity boys and girls basketball games scheduled for Friday night, Jan. 5, with Ronan High School will be played at the Joe McDonald Health and Fitness Center at Salish Kootenai College due to snow impacting a non-weight-bearing exterior wall at Linderman Elementary School.
Polson High's Activities Director Jay Krantz said the games — scheduled for 5:30 and 7 p.m. — are being moved as a precaution.
"The gym is not in question," he said Friday morning. "We've been practicing there. We just wanted to keep people out of the upper bleachers (during games)."
Weight from snow had apparently caused the wall to bow or bulge recently. Krantz said a temporary fix is being considered until a more permanent solution can be made in warmer weather.
Krantz said a drone had been used to take photos of the roof/wall situation from the air.
Polson Schools Superintendent Rex Weltz said via email that he is working with architects and structural engineers to remedy the situation.
The PHS girls varsity basketball team is scheduled to host a game with Stevensville on Friday, Jan. 12, at Linderman. Krantz also expects that game to be held at the Polson school.
"It sounds like we'll be able to get back on schedule next week," he said.
